Jos Massard

Joseph Albert Massard (born December 3, 1944 in Tétange , Luxembourg ) is a Luxembourg biologist and historian of science and medicine.

Biographical note

Jos Massard worked from 1968 to 2006 as a biology teacher at the classical grammar school in Echternach (Lycée Classique d'Echternach). In addition, from 1995 to 2002 he was a lecturer at what was then the Center universitaire in Luxembourg (now the University of Luxembourg) (subject: history of science and medicine).

From 1976 to 2005, Jos Massard was a member of the city council of Echternach: from 1976 to 1981 as first alderman (in Luxembourg called 1st alderman) and from 1998 to 1999 as mayor.

Jos Massard is a research assistant at the Natural History Museum in Luxembourg (Musée national d'histoire naturelle de Luxembourg). He is a real member of the scientific and corresponding member of the historical section of the Grand Ducal Institute (Institut grand-ducal). He is the author or co-author of numerous scientific articles and books in the fields of zoology (in particular freshwater moss animals , bryozoa ), ecology, the history of Luxembourg's fauna and flora, and the history of science and medicine in Luxembourg.

The moss species Plumatella geimermassardi is named after him and his wife Gaby Geimer, who is also a moss specialist .
