Josef Denk (actor)
Josef Denk ( October 15, 1801 in Munich - October 10, 1872 ) was a German theater actor .
Life
After he did not seem suitable for the clergy, he was chosen for the military career. But he did not last long with them, secretly took dramatic lessons and stepped onto the stage in Salzburg for the first time. He chose the character subject and was active in it in Linz, Brno, Passau, Regensburg, Freiburg, Baden-Baden and Donaueschingen, until chance led him to Karlsruhe (1851).
Here he was engaged by Eduard Devrient , who gave him mostly comical father roles, in which he worked in an outstanding manner until the end of his life.
During his 20 years at the Karlsruhe court theater, he was one of the most popular actors there. His audience proved this to him in an almost touching way occasionally at the celebration of his 50th anniversary as an artist. And when he died on October 10, 1872, that old-school veteran left only friends and admirers.
