Josef Estermann (sociologist)

Josef Estermann (* 1955 in Lucerne ) is a Swiss sociologist and lawyer.

Career

He studied at the Université de Friborg, Suisse and at the Free University of Berlin . In 1986 he was promoted to Dr. iur. in Friborg doctorate and in 1983 at the Free University Berlin Dr. phil., where he completed his habilitation in 2002 . In 2012 he completed his habilitation at the University of Zurich. Estermann was department head at the German Federal Health Office (Berlin, today Robert Koch Institute ), the Swiss Federal Health Office ( Bern , Switzerland) and the Federal Statistical Office (Bern). He teaches at the law and philosophy faculties of the Universities of Bern, Lucerne, Zurich and the Free University of Berlin. He is Senior Researcher at the Vienna Center for Societal Security (Vicesse) in Vienna.

His areas of work are legal sociology , social gerontology, epidemiology , sociology of deviant behavior, criminology, social science methods.
