Josef Feuerstein (politician)

Josef Feuerstein (born March 23, 1912 in Bludenz ; † December 2, 2005 there ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and a master carpenter and glazier. From 1949 to 1964 he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament .

education and profession

Josef Feuerstein attended elementary and community school in Bludenz. By 1929 he learned the trade of carpenter and glazier in his parents' business. He attended a technical college in Vienna. In 1932 he passed the master craftsman's examination in the carpentry trade. In 1938 he made the master's examination for the glass trade. Professionally, he spent years traveling at home and abroad before he took over his parents' business in Bludenz in 1937. He was drafted into military service in World War II between 1938 and November 1945 and returned from British captivity at the end of 1945. Then he continued his business.

He was a member, board member and chairman of the supervisory board of the carpenter's raw materials cooperative. He was also active as the guild master of the glaziers, was a member of the trade section of the Vorarlberg Chamber of Commerce and a member of various committees there.

Josef Feuerstein was in Bludenz in the medical and cultural committee in 1946 and between 1955 and 1965 substitute member of the community council and from 1965 to 1970 member of the community council.

As a member of the Bludenz constituency from October 25, 1949 to October 28, 1964, he was a member of the Vorarlberg State Parliament, where he was a member of the Education Committee, a member of the Social Policy Committee and a member of the Agriculture Committee.

Within the party he was a member of the Wirtschaftsbund and from 1949 worked as its district chairman for Bludenz. He was also chairman of the local business group Bludenz, from 1949 to 1946 a member of the state party leadership of the ÖVP Vorarlberg, from 1950 to 1964 a member of the state party council of the ÖVP Vorarlberg and a member of the regional party arbitration court of the ÖVP Vorarlberg.

Josef Feuerstein was a member of the Reich Association of Catholic Youth and a member of the Kolping Society and from 1958 a state senior. He was Vice President of the Vorarlberger Heimatwerk.

Private

Josef Feuerstein was the son of the master carpenter Ignaz Feuerstein and his wife Paulina Feuerstein, née Walter. He was married to Elfriede Leuprecht from 1951 and was the father of two daughters and a son, who were born between 1953 and 1957.
