Josef Giebel

Josef Giebel (* in the 20th century) is a German disabled athlete who specializes in standing volleyball .

Career

Josef Giebel is severely disabled, started as a volleyball player for BSG Saarwellingen and was appointed to the German national team for disabled people. He took part in the Paralympic Summer Games three times and won gold with the German team. First he won the 1988 Summer Paralympics in Seoul together with Rudolf Durrer , Bernd Heinrich , Manfred Kohl , Thomas Kruska , Anton Probst , Karl Quade , Rudolf Schwietering , Siegmund Soicke and Karl-Josef Weißenfels . He did the same at the 1992 Summer Paralympics in Barcelona with Durrer, Pavo Grgic , Heinrich, Andreas Johann , Stefan Kaiser , Kohl, Oliver Müller , Bernard Schmidl , Schwietering, Elmar Sommer and Weißenfels. In 1996 Giebel took part in the Atlanta Paralympic Games . The German team was composed as in 1992, except that Jens Altmann came for Durrer and Heinrich. Again she achieved the gold medal in the standing volleyball competition. Josef Giebel and the German disabled volleyball team were awarded the silver laurel leaf by the Federal President .
