Jens Altmann

Jens Altmann (born March 28, 1968 ) is a German disabled athlete who specializes in standing volleyball .

Career

Jens Altmann is severely disabled and competes in category C (upper arm amputation, left). He plays for the Gelsenkirchen disabled sports club . He was appointed as a volleyball player in the German national team for handicapped people. In 1993 and 1995 he was European champion with the German team and vice world champion in 1994 and 1998.

In 1996 he took part in the Paralympic Summer Games in Atlanta in part. Here the German team reached the final in the volleyball competition. In the final, the team consisted of Jens Altmann, Elmar Sommer , Rudolf Schwietering , Pavo Grgic , Manfred Kohl , Stefan Kaiser , Josef Weissenfels , Andreas Johann , Bernard Schmidt and Josef Giebel and achieved the Olympic victory with a gold medal. Jens Altmann and the German disabled volleyball team were awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf by the Federal President .

At the following Summer Paralympics in Sydney in 2000, Altmann won the gold medal with the German team. He later achieved first places at the World Cup in Phnom Penh (2007, 2009, 2011) and the 2008 World Championships in Handlová .

Altmann lives in Leipzig and works as a taxi driver .
