Josef Hofmeister (motor sportsman)

Josef Hofmeister (born June 17, 1934 in Abensberg ) is a former German motorcycle track racer who was successful on the short speedway track as well as on the longer grass and sand tracks .

Life

Hofmeister started his career in the junior class in 1949 and finished it in 1963 at the age of 29. In the 50s and early 60s he was the first German international star in motorcycle track racing. From 1958 to 1960 he was three times in a row European dirt track champion and from 1957 to 1960 he was the first German to advance to the Speedway Individual World Cup final at London's Wembley Stadium four times in a row .

After his racing career, Josef Hofmeister ran a specialist sporting goods store in Kempten / Allgäu for several decades.
