Josef Hollenstein

Josef Hollenstein (born March 19, 1863 in Lustenau ; † September 23, 1949 there ) was an Austrian politician ( CSP ) and farmer. From 1919 to 1923 he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament and from 1919 to 1927 mayor of Lustenau.

education and profession

After compulsory schooling, Hollenstein attended the teachers' seminar in Feldkirch from 1888 to 1890 and subsequently worked as a farmer. From 1886 he worked as a community clerk for a few years and ran a specialty shop with his wife.

Politics and functions

Hollenstein was a member of the Christian Social Party and was involved in local politics for a long time. He was elected to the Lustenau community council in 1899 and was a member of this body until 1927. In addition, from 1919 to 1927 he directed the fortunes of his home community Lustenau as mayor. He was also chairman of the local school council of Lustenau. After Hollenstein had already been a substitute for the provisional state assembly, he ran for the Christian Social Party in the 1919 state elections as a candidate for the Feldkirch electoral district and was subsequently sworn in as a member of parliament on June 17, 1919. During his time as a member of the state parliament, he was a member of the agriculture committee, a member of the school committee, a member of the finance committee and a member of the subsidy committee and resigned from the state parliament on November 5, 1923.

In addition, in 1892 Hollenstein was co-initiator of the Lustenau cooperative dairy, a founding and honorary member of the Liederkranz choral society, and a member and honorary member of the volunteer fire brigade.

Private

Josef Hollenstein was born as the son of the miller Joachim Hollenstein (1815–1881) and his wife Veronika Vogel (1828–1882). Both of his parents saw the light of day in Lustenau and died here as well. Josef Hollenstein married Maria Anna Hämmerle (1874–1941), also from Lustenau, on May 20, 1901 in Lustenau, and from 1902 to 1914 he was the father of a son and four daughters.
