Josef Mayr (born March 8, 1950 in St. Johann im Pongau ) is a former Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and master optician. From 1986 to 2004 he was a member of the Salzburg state parliament .

education and profession

Mayr was born in St. Johann im Pongau and attended elementary school in Pfarrwerfen from 1956 to 1960. He then switched to secondary school in Bischofshofen in 1960 to attend school, which he completed until 1964. In 1964 he began an apprenticeship as an optician in St. Johann im Pongau, where he also passed the master's examination in 1974. He then worked from 1974 to 1986 as managing director of the Optik Klecker company in St. Johann im Pongau. In 1986 Josef Mayr started his own business as a master optician in St. Johann im Pongau im Pongau, and subsequently opened a branch in his optician's business in Schwarzach.

Politics and functions

Josef Mayr joined the Socialist Party in 1974 and worked within the party from 1978 to 2004 as local party chairman of the SPÖ Pfarrwerfen. After his resignation as chairman of the local party, he was appointed honorary chairman of the SPÖ-Pfarrwerfen in 2005. He was also active in local politics and was a member of the parish council of Pfarrwerfen from 1979 to 2004. At the district level he acted as district party chairman of the SPÖ Pongau from 1996 to 2003, at the state level he was deputy state party chairman of the SPÖ Salzburg from 1997 to 2001. Mayr was a member of the Salzburg state parliament from October 22, 1986 to April 27, 2004, and between 1999 and 2004 he held the position of deputy club chairman in the SPÖ state parliament club.

Mayr was also involved in the professional representation and the social democratic trade association, where he was section chairman of the trade and from 2005 deputy state president of the free trade association in Salzburg. He was also active as a committee member of the opticians' guild from 1990 and from 2005 was deputy guild master for opticians and hearing aid acousticians in the Salzburg Chamber of Commerce. From 1994 he was also a lay judge at the Salzburg Labor Court.
