Josef Neuhierl (born July 13, 1895 in Buchhausen near Rosenheim, † October 21, 1957 in Fürth ) was a German toy manufacturer.

Life

After graduating from school and doing an apprenticeship as a mechanic, participating in the war and then taking a master craftsman's examination, he began producing toys in Nuremberg in 1920. In 1934 he moved to Fürth.

Initially, vehicles such as cars, racing cars, trucks, and planes were mainly produced. Military toys were also made during the war years. After the war, the American confiscated the premises, including all equipment and machines. Production was distributed to other rooms over two years until a new building could be moved into. In 1954 and 1957 a new building was occupied. In 1955 the son Hermann Neuhierl entered the business and after the death of his father took over the management with his mother Frieda.

The models of the Neuhierl company were very realistic after the war. The same item was mostly produced in different versions and price ranges. Production of the first plastic cars began in the late 1950s. At the beginning of the 1960s, the production of the Struxy series followed; these were vehicles that could be dismantled.

During a stay in America, Hermann came up with the idea of a car racing track, the Carrera track . The production of tin and plastic toys was then given up in favor of the Carrera track. In 1972 the company name was changed to Carrera Spielwarenfabrik Neuhierl GmbH & Co. KG . The products were rarely labeled and can mainly be recognized by the license plate.

Josef Neuhierl died on October 21, 1957 as a result of a heart attack.
