Josef Peter Guggenbichler

Josef-Peter Guggenbichler (born August 16, 1944 in Kitzbühel ) is an Austrian pediatrician .

He studied medicine at the University of Innsbruck , where he received his doctorate in 1969. He then worked at the Kufstein Hospital and from 1971-72 went to the University Hospital of Illinois. He passed his examination to become a pediatrician in the USA and returned to Austria in 1975. From 1980 to 1990 he was professor at the University of Innsbruck, from 1990 until his retirement in 2009 he was professor in the department of infectiology and preventive medicine at the children's and youth clinic at the University of Erlangen .

Guggenbichler is the owner of numerous patent applications for the antimicrobial finishing of plastics and, together with Maximilian Lackner and Undine Soltau, director of the Central Office for Health Protection, founded the company AMiSTec, which develops material systems for antimicrobial surfaces. Maximilian Lackner and Undine Soltau have since left AMiSTec. The company was awarded the Austrian Young Entrepreneur Prize in November 2013.
