Josef Porten

Josef Porten (born February 14, 1908 in Krefeld , † January 19, 1978 there ) was a German politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

After attending elementary school and graduating from high school, Porten trained as a baker, which he completed with a journeyman's examination. He then worked as a baker and passed the master craftsman examination in 1933. Since 1939 he worked as an independent master baker in Krefeld. From 1942 to 1945 he took part in the Second World War as a soldier .

Porten had been the head master of the Krefeld bakers' guild since 1947 and became the state guild master of the bakery trade in North Rhine-Westphalia in 1963 . Since 1962, he has been chairman of the board of the BÄKO- Bundeszentrale, an amalgamation of the German baker's cooperatives, and since 1964 he has been president of BÄKO-Europa. He also acted as deputy chairman of the professional association for food and restaurants .

Political party

Porten joined the CDU in 1946 and was deputy chairman of the CDU Rhineland's SME Committee .

MP

Porten was a council member of the city of Krefeld from 1950 to 1961. He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1961 to 1969. In both electoral terms he entered parliament via the CDU's state list in North Rhine-Westphalia.
