Matteo Priamo began his international career in 2006 with the Italian Professional Continental Team Ceramiche Panaria-Navigare . After winning two parts of the Tour of Turkey in 2008 , he won the sixth stage of the Giro d'Italia after an attack over the last 12 kilometers .

On February 27, 2009, Priamo was the first cyclist ever to be banned for 4 years by the Comitato Olimpico Nazionale Italiano (CONI) for doping and trading in doping preparations . He was named as his dealer in the previous investigation by his teammate Emanuele Sella . Priam's suspension was lifted by the Italian National Anti-Doping Tribunal (TNA) in Rome and he was given a provisional right to start in 2009. The CONI appealed against this before the International Court of Justice for Sports (CAS). On November 12th, 2009 the CAS decided that the ban is legal. Priamo will therefore remain blocked until February 26, 2013. The results achieved in 2009 are deleted.
