Josef Reif (association official)

Josef August Reif (born January 20, 1866 in Pless ; † 1933 ) was a German association functionary .

Life

Josef Reif was born as the son of August Reif and Bertha, nee Leonhard, born in Pless, Upper Silesia. He attended business school and completed a commercial apprenticeship. He then worked as a commercial clerk for seven years. In 1892 he entered the service of the Association of German Handlers (VDH) in Leipzig , in 1905 he became a member of the board and in 1907 head of the association's state administration. From the Association of German clerks, the trade union federation of employees (GDA) emerged in 1920, which Reif was involved in founding and of which he also chaired the Leipzig regional association. In addition, in 1912 he co-founded the Reich Insurance Company for Salaried Employees . He was chairman of the main committee for state pension insurance.

During the time of the Weimar Republic he joined the German Democratic Party (DDP) and was a member of the Provisional Reich Economic Council .

Josef Reif had been with Elisabeth, born in 1897. Sturm, married and had two sons. His younger son Hans (1899–1984) was a liberal politician, member of the Bundestag and a member of the Berlin House of Representatives.
