Josef Sommer (local history researcher)

Josef Sommer (born June 10, 1877 in Kallerheistert , Eifel, † March 25, 1951 ) was a German educator and local researcher.

Sommer was initially a teacher at the elementary school in Wildenrath from 1899 to 1905 . In 1905 he switched to the elementary school in Merken , where he worked as the main teacher until 1922 and then as its principal until 1946. In addition to his school activities, he devoted himself to the historical research of his closer home. He wrote numerous works on the history of Merkens, most of which were published in the local history supplement of the Dürener Zeitung .

On October 11, 1906, he married Gertrud Arnolds, who came from Wildenrath.
