The Dürener Zeitung (abbreviation DZ) is a local edition of the Aachener Zeitung and the official announcement organ for the city of Düren. It appears in the southern district of Düren . The local editorial office is located in Düren . The newspaper is printed in the Rhenish format .

The Dürener Zeitung still has the names “Dürener Anzeiger” and “Dürener Generalanzeiger” as subtitles.

history

The Dürener Zeitung appeared for the first time on September 22, 1872 as the Dürener Sunday newspaper for the city and the surrounding area and has appeared as the Dürener Zeitung since January 1, 1874. The newspaper was founded by the bookseller and printer owner Robert Hamel from Duisburg . At first the newspaper appeared only weekly, from at least 1886 then twice a week, later then four times a week and since 1900 daily from Monday to Saturday.

From July 3, 1889 to December 31, 1895, the newspaper appeared under the title Dürener Generalanzeiger , but with the issue of January 1, 1896, the newspaper got its old name back. On April 1, 1909, the Dürener Zeitung took over the Dürener Anzeiger, which had already been founded in 1818 as a district councilor's correspondence sheet . With that, the largest competing newspaper was gone. The newspaper continued to appear during the Nazi era, but was banned and discontinued in 1942.

In 1947 the paper appeared again and joined the Aachener Volkszeitung , from which it was later completely taken over. The newspaper was initially printed in the house of the Düren printing and publishing house Carl Hamel am Markt. In 2013 the collaboration between the Hamel publishing house and the Dürener Zeitung finally ended . The local editorial office is now located in the Schiffer agency's house on Kaiserplatz.
