The Dürener Anzeiger und Unterhaltungsblatt was the oldest regional newspaper for the city and district of Düren .

history

The Dürener Anzeiger appeared for the first time on August 1, 1818, at that time under the name Landrathliches Korrespondenz-Blatt . This makes the Dürener Anzeiger the first newspaper to appear in Düren . The Düren publisher and print shop owner Franz Knoll founded the newspaper at the suggestion of the then district administrator Freiherr Gerhard von Lommessem . In 1839 the district council's correspondence sheet was renamed Dürener Anzeiger and Unterhaltungsblatt. The sheet kept this name until it was discontinued in 1909.

For almost 40 years, the Dürener Anzeiger was the only large newspaper in the area. It was only with the publisher for the Düren district , which had been published since 1854, that the newspaper faced serious competition. At the beginning of 1890 the owner of the newspaper changed. The Knoll family sold the newspaper, which they had run for three generations, to the Actiengesellschaft für Zeitungsverlag und Druckerei am Kaiserplatz in Düren. Publishers were initially Franz Knoll, then Joseph Knoll and finally Hugo Knoll.

The last Dürener Anzeiger appeared in March 1909. The publication was discontinued because the Dürener Zeitung, founded in 1872, took over the Dürener Anzeiger. Since then, the Dürener Zeitung has also carried the Dürener Anzeiger title under its name. The name of the Dürener Anzeiger is still in the imprint of the Dürener Zeitung today.

Many editions of the Düren Anzeiger have been preserved and are in the city and district archives in Düren.
