Heinrich XXVIII. Reuss zu Ebersdorf (also Heinrich XXVIII. Count Reuss von Plauen ; born August 30, 1726 in Ebersdorf , Vogtland , † May 10, 1797 in Herrnhut , Upper Lusatia , Electorate of Saxony ) was an important member of the Moravian Brethren .

Life

He was the third son of Count Heinrich XXIX. Reuss zu Ebersdorf and Countess Sophie Theodora zu Castell-Remlingen. The father was a close confidante and brother-in-law of Nikolaus Ludwig Graf von Zinzendorf , the founder of the Moravian community. In 1747 Heinrich XXVIII. after the death of the father with the mother to Herrnhut . He married Countess Agnes Sophie von Promnitz that year in neighboring Berthelsdorf .

Due to his prominent status, Heinrich was of particular importance to the community. In 1748 he acquired the office and Barby Castle as a long lease for them. A theological seminar was set up there the following year, and the Gnadau settlement was built a few years later. Heinrich traveled a lot in Germany as a representative of the community; he traveled to Switzerland, France, the Netherlands, England, Scotland and Ireland. In 1766 he was the first representative of the community to face the Austrian Emperor Joseph II when he visited Herrnhut, in 1772 he was taken over by the British King George III. Received several times during a trip.

In 1791, after the death of his wife Agnes Sophie, Heinrich inherited her extensive goods and in 1793 sold the Drehna and Vetschau estates . In 1797 he died with no offspring.
