Josefa de Óbidos
Josefa de Óbidos (actually Josefa de Ayala , * 1630 in Seville , † July 2, 1684 in Óbidos (Portugal) ) was an important Portuguese painter of the Baroque era . She is considered one of the most important Portuguese painters of all time.
Life
Josefa was born as Josefa de Ayala in Seville around 1630, where her father, the Portuguese painter Baltasar Gomes Figueira, worked. She came to Portugal when she was five, spent most of her youth in Coimbra , and later she worked mainly in Óbidos.
She died in Óbidos in 1684 and is buried in the Igreja Sao Pedro there.
