Josefine Pagay

Josefine Pagay ( 1849 in Vienna - November 18, 1892 in Berlin ) was an Austrian theater actress and operetta singer ( soprano ).

Life

She dared her first stage attempt as a 14-year-old girl at the Quaitheater in Vienna, as “Cupid” in “ Orpheus in the Underworld ” and it didn't take long for the shy beginner to become one of the smartest and cheeky soubrettes . Pagay's pointed couplet lecture full of temperament, her cheerfulness, her humor, her adorable amiability, her electrifying talent for representation made her the darling of every audience. She excelled in both operetta and farce . In the first genre she achieved great success in the works of Offenbach, Suppé, Millöcker, Strauss, Genée etc., but also as “Fanny” in “Lokalsängerin und Postillon”, as “Leichte Person”, as “Therese Krones” in “Number 28 ”, as“ Leni ”(“ Three Pairs of Shoes ”),“ Nandl ”in the“ Promise behind the stove ”and as all the good Austrian antics of Kaiser, Bittner, Berg, Berla, Costa, Langer etc. were called, appeared in everyone them to win.
