Joseph-Edouard-Louis Beernaert (born April 21, 1883 , † 1950 ) was a lieutenant general in the Belgian armed forces .

Life

Beernaert completed an officer training and after its completion found various uses in the army . He was promoted to major general on March 26, 1939 and was in command of the 1st Cavalry Division from 1939 to December 26, 1939. He then became commander of the 1st Cavalry Division on December 26, 1939 and exercised this function at the end of the attack by the German Wehrmacht in 1940. His last position as lieutenant general in 1944 was General Inspector of the Army.
