Joseph Charlot

Joseph-Auguste Charlot (born January 21, 1827 in Nancy , † August 1871 in Sèvres ) was a French composer .

Life

Charlot began his musical training at the Paris Conservatory at the age of ten. He studied piano with Pierre Zimmermann and composition with Michele Carafa . In 1838, when he was eleven, he received first prize in the subject of solfège. The first prize for piano followed in 1841, that for harmony and accompaniment in 1842. In 1850 he won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome with the cantata Emma et Eginhard .

After his stay in Rome, Charlot became a companion and later choirmaster at the Opéra-Comique . In 1866 he succeeded Eugène Vauthrot as choirmaster of the Concerts du Conservatoire . Hartmann Verlag published the Dix mélodies collection from his estate .
