Joseph Miranda

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Joseph "Joe the Old Man" Miranda (* 1925 ) is an Italian-American mobster of the US Cosa Nostra and member of the DeCavalcante family , which has its headquarters in Elizabeth (New Jersey) . Miranda received the title "The Old Man" because he is the oldest member of his Mafia family.

Life

Joseph Miranda was already during the 1960s and 1970s as a simple Soldato or Man Made (made man) for Sam DeCavalcante - worked as a loan shark - the namesake of the family. FBI documents reveal that DeCavalcante once prevented Miranda from being killed in a so-called "sit-down" after Miranda robbed another mobster while he was working for DeCavalcante. For decades, Miranda operated from a bar on 1st Ave in Elizabeth, New Jersey .

In 2003 he was appointed deputy underboss and in 2005 also took over the management of the organization as acting boss . In an attempt to strengthen the family again, he introduced up to 12 new members.

At the end of 2006 and beginning of 2007 he resigned from his position and left Francesco Guarraci as the incumbent boss. Miranda herself continues to serve the family as an underboss.
