Joseph Sprenger (also Josef Sprenger, born June 13, 1877 in Lütmarsen , † July 29, 1951 in Essen ) was a German politician ( center ) and a member of the Prussian state parliament.

Life

After attending elementary and advanced training school, Sprenger trained as a carpenter and then worked as a carpenter in various cities. At the same time, he continued his education in various courses and by attending the technical and trade school in Berlin . From 1903 he was the workers' secretary of a Christian trade union in Helmstedt , and from 1907 also the workers' secretary of the district association of Catholic workers' associations in Groß-Gelsenkirchen . In addition, Sprenger was chairman of the cartel of the Christian trade unions in Gelsenkirchen, since 1908 there also city councilor and chairman of the center faction in the city parliament. From 1919 to 1921 he was a member of the Prussian state assembly and from 1921 to 1928 he was a member of the Prussian state parliament . In Gelsenkirchen he had held the office of a salaried councilor of the city administration from 1919 before he became mayor of Gelsenkirchen in 1928. In April 1933 he was dismissed due to the National Socialist law to restore the civil service . He was therefore not entitled to any pension claims and the Gestapo monitored him.
