Josephus Simon Sertürner (* 1729 in Lower Styria ; † December 29, 1798 in Neuhaus, Westphalia ) was a surveyor , engineer and architect in the Prince Diocese of Paderborn .

Life

Joseph Simon Sertürner (also Sertünner) is the father of the discoverer of morphine , Friedrich Wilhelm Adam Sertürner . His family originally came from Lower Styria, Austria . From 1767 he worked as a surveyor in the service of the court chamber of the Prince Diocese of Paderborn. He supervised the "entire construction industry in the area of ​​the Hochstift", but never achieved the position of "court and state master builder". How he got to the prince-bishop's office is unclear. Sertürner has made a name for himself in particular in the technical settlement of the border disputes between the County of Rietberg and the Prince Diocese of Paderborn .
