Josesito García Vila
José Ovidio García "Josesito" Vila (born October 9, 1888 in Santiago de los Caballeros ; † January 22, 1919 ibid) was a Dominican pianist and composer.
García had his first lessons from his father, José Ovidio García, and was then a student of the Cuban pianist Tomás Planes Ferrer . As a member of Manuel La Presa's group , he toured Cuba, South America and Mexico in 1909. In 1910 he was a pianist at the Actualidades Theater in Guantánamo, Cuba, and the following year he was orchestra director of the La Bella Carmela company in Puerto Rico.
In 1911 he returned to Santiago. There he taught piano and worked as organist at the cathedral and pianist at the Teatro Colón in the city. Little has survived of his compositions, including Salve a la Virgen (1903) and a Misa de requiem (1907).
