Josse ben Josse (also: Jose ben Jose ; Josse is short for Josef ) is the oldest known Jewish liturgical poet ( Pajjtan ), from whom, among other things, two Aboda seals vividly depicting the sacrificial service on Yom Kippur in the temple in Jerusalem come.

His nickname was ha-Jatom ("the orphan", probably derived from the fact that he bears the name of his father).

His poems are characterized by a noble language and a rhythmic, but still rhyming, solemn, raised verse.

Jose lived in Palestine . His lifetime is estimated differently in research and fluctuates between the 4th and 7th centuries AD.
