Josune Bereziartu , also known as Josune Bereciartu Urruzola (born January 19, 1972 in Lazkao ) is a Spanish sport climber .

Life

Josune Bereziartu was born on January 19, 1972 in Lazkao, a Basque city in the province of Gipuzkoa , in northern Spain. Josune started climbing quite late at the age of 17 after watching a Spanish TV show that showed two girls climbing in the Verdon Gorge. She immediately began climbing and was soon trained by her sister's friend. Bereziartu later married her longtime climbing partner Rikar Otegui, who also became her trainer. Josune was soon one of the best climbers in the Basque Country. She was one of the world's best sport and competition climbers in the lead and bouldering disciplines . She was the first woman who could climb a climbing route in the difficulty levels (French) 8c, 8c +, 9a and 9a / +.
