Josy Simon

Josy Simon (born March 25, 1933 in Luxembourg ) is a former Luxembourgish competitive athlete and member of parliament .

Athletic career

Simon was successful several times as a walker . In particular, he was an extreme walker at the walking marathon (500 km) Strasbourg-Paris (today Colmar-Paris) between 1971 and 1978 four times the winner and took several second places. He received several awards, including the Trophée du meilleur sportif in 1963 and 1965.

  • 1965: World champion in 100 km walking
  • 1971: 1st in walking racing: Strasbourg – Paris
  • 1972: 1st in the walking race: Strasbourg – Paris
  • 1975: 1st in the walking race: Strasbourg – Paris
  • 1978: 1st in the walking race: Strasbourg – Paris
  • In 2013, at the age of 80, he completed the 100 km run in Stadtgut Steyr (AUT) and set a new world record in the M80 age group with a time of 12:17:03 hours.

Political career

Simon was a member of the Luxembourg parliament for the DP (Democratic Party). Due to an expulsion process from the party, he switched to the ADR (Alternative Democratic Reform Party) in 1991 .
