The Journal of Development Economics publishes articles related to all aspects of economic development. The focus here is on quantitative or analytical work that is relevant and intellectually stimulating. The Journal of Development Economics publishes articles and reviews of original research , but not book reviews. The Journal of Development Economics also typically does not publish in-depth studies on a specific country, region, case, or event.
Publication process
The articles published in the Journal of Development Economics are cross-examined in order to guarantee the scientific quality of the published articles. For this purpose, the articles sent are first subjected to a preselection, with some articles being rejected immediately. This includes articles that are thematically or methodologically inappropriate to the subject area of the journal. (2003) study on the quality of economic publications, the Journal of Development Economics ranked 40th out of 159 evaluated publications, but improved in a later study by Kalaitzidakis et al. (2011) ranked 23rd out of 209 publications. In the economic publication ranking of the Tinbergen Institute , the Journal of Development Economics is listed in category B (“good scientific journals for all research fields of the Tinbergen Institute”). Another study by the French economists Pierre-Phillippe Combes and Laurent Linnemer ranks the journal in the third-best category A, ranking 24th out of 600 economic journals.
The Journal of Development Economics' impact factor in 2012 was 2,353. In the statistics of the Social Sciences Citation Index , the journal with this impact factor was ranked 27th out of 333 journals in the economics category. This means that the journal is in the top 25% of economic journals in terms of citation frequency.
