The Rohren Journalists' Seminar was an annual seminar aimed at young, up-and-coming journalists . The aim of the seminar was to provide the participants with comprehensive information about the profession of journalist. The seminar was not a commercial event, but was financed by the Aachen-Düren employment agency, with donations and by a support association of the former participants. Experienced media professionals volunteered here in their free time

The journalists' seminar Rohren took place once a year in July / August in the Eifel from 1990 to 2017 and lasts 10 days. It is named after the venue, the small village of Rohren near Monschau in the Eifel. The seminar was initiated by ARD television journalists Ulrich Adrian and Rainer Seidel, a career advisor at the Federal Employment Agency in Aachen. Over 450 schoolchildren and students have completed the seminar, many of whom now work for newspapers as well as radio and television broadcasters all over Germany.

In the seminar, all journalistic work areas are presented, at the same time the participants are informed about the various training paths in Germany. The participants attend appointments in the area, learn interview techniques, create their own online page every day, write newspaper articles and present a one-hour television and a three-hour radio program. Prominent guests such as Martin Schulz , Christoph Steegmans , Sonia Seymour Mikich and Emmanuel Peterfalvi ("Alfons") made themselves available for a press conference lasting several hours .

target group

The seminar was aimed at pupils from grade 11 and at students up to 28 years of age. Previous journalistic experience is not required. The participants should be given a basis for decision-making as to whether and for which journalistic area they are particularly suitable. In addition to journalistic know-how, they learn to cope with time pressure and stage fright. They also receive information about the various training opportunities, tips for choosing a course, applications and job interviews.

Evidence of sexual harassment

After research by stern and Correctiv revealed allegations of sexual harassment against a WDR employee on April 4 and 5, 2018 , the board of the friends' association and the seminar leader announced that the WDR employee in question and his wife from all resigned their functions in connection with the journalism seminar Rohren.

A few days later, the board announced on the seminar website that the 2018 event would be canceled. The reason given was "that there could have been cases of sexual harassment in the vicinity of the journalism seminar". One tries to work up.
