Jozien Bensing

Josina Maria "Jozien" Bensing (born March 12, 1950 in Tilburg ) is a Dutch psychologist.

Life

Bensing studied clinical psychology at the University of Utrecht and received his doctorate from the Erasmus University Rotterdam in 1991 . She has been Professor of Clinical Psychology and Health Psychology at the University of Utrecht since 1993 and Director of NIVEL (Nederlands Instituut voor Onderzoek van de Gezondheidszorg) from 1985 to 2008. From 1996 to 1998 she was dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences in Utrecht.

She studies the communication between doctors and patients in the healthcare sector, including developing protocols for non-verbal communication. For her examination, she documented over 16,000 doctor-patient conversations on video.

In 2006 she received the Spinoza Prize . In 2003 she received the George Engel Award, in 2004 she became an officer of the Order of Oranje-Nassau and in 2015 she became a knight of the Order of the Dutch Lion. She is on the Council for Social Sciences of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences.
