Juan Chassaing

Juan Chassaing (born July 15, 1839 in Buenos Aires , † November 3, 1864 there ) was an Argentine writer.

Juan Chassaing was the son of a French lawyer and his Argentine wife.

Chassaing interrupted his law studies and took part in the battle of Cepeda on October 23, 1859 at the age of 20 (with the rank of captain) under Bartolomé Miter . He also distinguished himself for bravery at the Battle of Pavon on September 17, 1862. After the end of the war he finished his studies and settled in Buenos Aires as a lawyer.

As such, he founded the magazine "El Pueblo" in 1864 in order to have its own forum for his political commitment. Before that he wrote as a freelancer a. a. for newspapers and magazines such as “Espada de Lavalle” and “El Nacional”. In addition to his oeuvre of political content, Chassaing left only a few poems. He is immortal alone with his patriotic poem A mi bandera .

On November 3, 1864, Juan Chassaing died of tuberculosis in his hometown at the age of 25 , where he found his final resting place.
