Juan Francisco Cruella

Juan Francisco Cruella (* 1804 in Castellón ; † 1886 in Morella ) was a Spanish painter.

Life

The neoclassical painter was born in the city of Castellón in 1804; There are no longer any records of his training. His works deal exclusively with religious themes, most of which he executed using the tempera technique.

Juan Francisco Cruella often worked with Joaquín Oliet and designed elaborate ornamental paintings in numerous churches in the province of Castellón. The most famous wall paintings are his works in the Ermita de Santa Elena in Ares del Maestre , Capilla de la Comunión de Morella , Santuario de la Virgen del Sargar in Herbés and Santuario de la Virgen de la Balma in Zorita del Maestrazgo .

Posthumously

Some of his oil paintings and drawings that he painted and drew during the Carlist Wars are now in the Museo de Bellas Artes de Valencia . After his death, some of his works were also published as lithographs ; two of them are in the Museo Nacional de Cerámica y Artes Suntuarias González Martí .
