Juan Manuel López Iturriaga (also Iturriaga ; born February 4, 1959 in Bilbao ) is a former Spanish basketball player . His traditional position was that of the shooting guard . Iturriaga, who was known for his fast counter-attacks and distance throws, began his career in his native Bilbao with the small club Loyola Indautxu , and when he was only 17 he eventually moved to Real Madrid . There he celebrated numerous successes, including winning the Spanish championship , the trophy and the Intercontinental Cup in his first season . In total, during his twelve years at the club, he achieved ten national and seven international titles. In his total of 90 appearances with the Spanish national team , Iturriaga reached the Vice European Championship in 1983 and a silver medal at the Olympic Games in 1984 , where they were only defeated in the final against the USA team . After his active career, Iturriaga switched to the media landscape, where he a. a. works as a columnist and television commentator.
