Juanita Carberry

Juanita Carberry (born May 7, 1925 - July 27, 2013 in London ) is a Kenyan writer . She became known for her memoirs and her role in the affair of Josslyn Victor Hay (1901-1941), 22nd Earl of Erroll .

Life

The daughter from a rich family lost her mother in a plane crash when she was three years old. The stepmother beat her. During the boarding school years in England, Switzerland and South Africa, she experienced various harassment. At the age of fifteen she claims to have heard of Lord Erroll's confession. She kept it to herself until her memoirs were published.

The topic has been filmed and described several times. The BBC created a portrait of Carberry as a Fanny (auxiliary nurse) during the war and a documentation of her childhood in Kenya. She worked as a consultant for the film adaptation of Out of Africa . She hit the headlines at the age of seventy-seven when she announced that she would bequeath her body to Gunther von Hagens after her death .
