Juca Chaves (born October 22, 1938 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian comedian , singer and writer . He is the son of Austrian Jewish immigrants.

Life

Due to his background in classical music, he began to compose in his childhood. He started his career in the late 1950s, playing Modinhas and Trovas in a soft style. In the 1960s he founded a circus, the Cantagalo Court, near the Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon. There he presented his show "Menestrel Maldito". Chaves was an active critic of the Brazilian military regime, the mainstream press, and the record industry. In the early 1970s he was during the presidency of Emílio Garrastazu Médici after Portugal banned, but when his satires of the fascist regime, which was then in power, won on television and radio in popularity, he felt compelled to Italy to pull. After returning to Brazil, he became a television presenter . In the 80s he founded an independent record label, Sdruws Records.

In 2006, Chaves started his candidacy for senator in Bahia as a member of the Christian Social Democratic Party and landed in 4th place with 19,603 votes (0.35% of the total vote). His campaign advertising, published in the form of poetry, set him apart from the other candidates.

Chaves lives in Bahia with his wife Yara Chaves, with whom he has two adoptive daughters, Maria Morena and Maria Clara. His musical successes include: "Por Que Sonha Ana Maria?", "Pequena Marcha Para Um Grande Amor", "Aquarela dos Sonhos", "Meu Violão Morreu", "Auto Retrato", "Caixinha, Obrigado", "Presidente Bossa" Nona ”,“ Dona Maria Teresa ”,“ Que Saudade ”and“ Take me back to Piauí ”. He is an avowed fan of São Paulo FC .
