Judith Ann Wilcox, Baroness Wilcox (born December 31, 1939 ) is a British politician ( Conservative Party ).

Family and education

Wilcox was born to John Freeman and his wife Elsie. She received her education at St. Dunstan's Abbey School in Plymouth , St Mary's Convent in Wantage and at the University of Plymouth . She was married to Keith Davenport in her first marriage from 1961 to 1986. From this marriage a son was born in 1963. She married her second husband, Malcolm George Wilcox, in 1986. However, he died that same year.

Career

After completing her training, Wilcox first ran a family business in Devon . Between 1979 and 1994 she held leading positions in English and French companies in the food industry. From 1990 to 1996 she was chair of the National Consumer Council . She also worked on John Major 's Citizen's Charter campaign to improve services of general interest . She has been a member of the House of Lords since 1996 . She was named Life Peeress as Baroness Wilcox, of Plymouth in the County of Devon on January 16, 1996 .

From 2002 to 2005 she was the opposition whip . As spokeswoman for the opposition, she was responsible for the budget from 2003 to 2005, for the Cabinet Office from 2005 to 2006 and for trade and industry / business, corporate and regulatory reform from 2006 to 2008. Since 2008 she has been the opposition spokesperson on energy and climate change.

She has been Vice-Chair of the Fisheries Group since 2004 and Shadow Minister for Energy and Climate Change since January 19, 2009.
