The Judo Bundesliga is the highest competition class for judo teams in Austria. For men it is currently divided into the First and Second Judo Bundesliga. For women there is currently only one women's judo league. They are all organized by the Austrian Judo Association.

The winner of the first men's judo league receives the title " Austrian State Champion men's teams 20xx"

Competition mode

A league match consists of two rounds. Each round consists of seven fights in the weight classes + 55–60 kg, + 60–66 kg, + 66–73 kg, + 73–81 kg, + 81–90 kg, + 90–100 kg, +100 kg for the Men and + 44–48 kg, + 48–52 kg, + 52–57 kg, + 57–63 kg, + 63–70 kg, + 70–78 kg, +78 kg for women. There is a one kilogram weight tolerance.

Form of event

Basic round

All three couches are held according to the championship system. This means that every team plays against every other team in the league. They meet once per league season. The winning team receives two points for the table. In the event of a tie, points are shared and each of the two clubs receives one point for the table.

Determination of winners

In the Second Judo Bundesliga, the championship title and the placements result from the table ranking after the basic round.

In the First Judo Bundesliga and in the Ladies Judo Bundesliga, the master and runner-up are determined from the top four of the basic round as part of the respective FINAL FOUR .

Men's Bundesliga

The start of the later Bundesliga took place in 1948 as the team championship. The JK Post won it.

Since then there has been a name change several times:

  • 1948–1968 team championship
  • 1968 / 69–1972 / 73 State League
  • 1974–2000 division into State League A and State League B
  • 2001–2008 Bundesliga and national league
  • 2009-present 1st Bundesliga and 2nd Bundesliga

Women's Bundesliga

Until 2014, the Austrian national women's team championships were held in tournament form. In 2015 no state championship title could be awarded because only five teams took part and so the minimum requirements of the Austrian Federal Sports Organization could not be met.

In order to revitalize women's judo sport, it was decided to introduce a women's judo league for the 2016/17 season, based on the model of the men's first division. The first champion of the women's national league is Shiai-Do Thermenregion.
