Youth for tolerance and democracy

Youth for Tolerance and Democracy is an action program against right-wing extremism , xenophobia and anti-Semitism created by the German government in 2001 . The program is divided into the three sub-programs Xenos , Entimon and CIVITAS and is under the umbrella of the Alliance for Democracy and Tolerance - Against Extremism and Violence . The program ended in 2006 as planned. It was succeeded by the program Diversity is good for you - Youth for Diversity, Tolerance and Democracy.

Xenos - living and working
  • XENOS - Living and Working in Diversity : Program to promote mutual understanding, learning and working together among German and foreign young people and adults. Civil society structures are to be strengthened and peaceful coexistence promoted.
Entimon
  • Entimon - Together against violence and right-wing extremism: Program to promote measures to strengthen democracy and tolerance and to prevent and combat right-wing extremism and violence.
CIVITAS
  • CIVITAS - initiative against right-wing extremism in the new federal states: Program to promote civil society projects and initiatives exclusively in the eastern federal states and Berlin, whose self-image is based on the values ​​of plurality, humanity, justice and equal rights.

In the 2001 budget of the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth , an additional 40 million marks were earmarked for the action program. Another 25 million marks flowed from the European Social Fund into the XENOS program, which is intended to combat xenophobia in companies, associations and schools.

By 2006, 4,500 projects, initiatives and measures had been funded with federal funds amounting to approx. 192 million euros. The funding is divided into approx. 65 million euros to Entimon, approx. 52 million euros to CIVITAS and approx. 75 million euros to Xenos, the latter being supplemented by additional co-financing from the European Social Fund amounting to 85 million euros.
