Youth employment protection
The term youth labor protection stands for political measures for the personal protection of children and young people in working life. The protection of young people at work is thus both a sub-area of labor law or occupational safety as well as the protection of young people .
history
From a historical point of view, provisions on the protection of young people at work are the oldest measures in the area of statutory labor protection law. An example of this is the Prussian “ Regulation on the Employment of Young Workers in Factories ” of March 9, 1839.
Instruments
Instruments of youth employment protection are or can be:
- Prohibitions, e.g. B. the general prohibition of child labor and possibly young people below a legally stipulated minimum age or the prohibition of certain occupations
- special rights of children and young people, e.g. B. with regard to working hours or in the context of company interest representation
Youth employment protection is the subject of national legislation (in Germany: Youth Employment Protection Act , in Austria: Child and Youth Employment Act), legislation in the field of EU social policy and international conventions (Art. 32 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child , Art. 10.3 of the International Covenant on Economic , social and cultural rights ).
