Youth Turntable Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The youth turntable award is a journalist award and has been awarded since 2007 for exemplary youth and children's sites as well as outstanding concepts in this area. The award was initiated by the Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb). The youth turntable is an online portal for good ideas from youth editors and belongs to the turntable , a best practice magazine for local journalists . Both the youth turntable and the turntable are operated by the Raufeld Medien agency (Berlin) on behalf of the Federal Agency for Civic Education. The youth turntable prize is awarded in three categories at the forum for local journalists and is endowed with 1000 euros, 600 euros and 400 euros.

The background

Almost all of the 350 or so daily newspapers published in Germany have developed children's and youth formats in their newspapers and on Internet platforms. The publishers are sometimes trying to introduce kindergarten children to the daily newspaper with campaigns in order to counteract falling circulation. In recent years, very different ways of accessing young readers have emerged. This ranges from children's reports that are distributed all over the paper to campaigns such as a children's press conference at which children are allowed to interview politicians. The German Press Agency (dpa) in Hamburg has also adapted to the increased demand for child and youth reports and developed a special service for this. The youth turntable award is the first journalist award in Germany that is dedicated to this spectrum.

The 2007 award winners

Hellweger Anzeiger (Unna) won first prize for the daily children's website in the “Editorial Offer for Children” category . The Braunschweiger Zeitung and the Westfalenpost (Hagen) took second and third place. Medienhaus Bauer ( Recklinghäuser Zeitung , Marl) received first prize in the “Editorial offer for young people” category for the cross-media approach it offers with the daily youth website “scenario” and the internet platform www.scenario4u.de . The newspaper group Lahn-Dill (Wetzlar) and the Torgauer Zeitung received second and third prizes. In the “Media Education Project” category, the Rheinische Post (Düsseldorf) won over the jury with the “We'll be woodruff” project, which it carried out with 120 kindergartens last year.
