The Meiningen Youth Red Cross Orchestra is one of two youth music trains of the German Red Cross ( DRK ) throughout Germany . It is based in the southern Thuringian district town of Meiningen and is maintained directly by the DRK district association Meiningen eV under the umbrella of the youth association of the German Red Cross .

The Meiningen Youth Red Cross Orchestra was founded in 1970. The orchestra plays at events of the German Red Cross, especially in the southern half of Germany, and also performs on other diverse occasions. In addition to the Meiningen Youth Red Cross Orchestra, there is another Red Cross Youth Orchestra founded in 1973 in Eckernförde , Schleswig-Holstein .

The Meiningen Orchestra has 85 members, 35 of whom are active between the ages of 6 and 37 in various formations (as of 2018). It consists of an A orchestra, a B orchestra and a C orchestra. In addition to the large orchestra, there is a small brass band and a wind quintet. The youth orchestra also performs abroad. So far, trips abroad have taken her to Hungary, Spain, France, the Netherlands, Italy, the Czech Republic and Poland. In some countries, friendships are maintained with local orchestras.
