Juhani Toukonen

Juhani (Jussi) Toukonen (born October 23, 1940 Ilmajoki , South Ostrobothnia , Finland ) is a Finnish lieutenant colonel , master of economics, painter and heraldist .

Military career

After military service, he completed the military academy and then in active service he was promoted to lieutenant (1967), first lieutenant (1970), captain (1975), major (1982) and lieutenant colonel (1990). He went into the reserve in 1993. During his active service he studied at the Helsinki School of Commerce and received a master's degree in economics.

Artist and heraldist

Painter

During his youth (1948–1952) he received private lessons in drawing and painting. One of his teachers was Nandor Mikolai . After 1957 he was tutored by the Finnish artists Oiva Polari , Veikko Takala and Yrjö Mustonen .

By 2016, Juhani Toukonen had painted around 500 pictures and had over 50 private exhibitions. Landscapes, nature morte and portraits are painted in his pictures. In the portraits there are e.g. B. the President of the Republic of Finland, Tarja Halonen , and the Marshal of Finland, Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim .

Heraldist

During his military career, his activities also included drawing up regulations on how the decorations should be worn on a military suit. In addition, he was a specialist in heraldic issues.

As a medal heraldist, he designed important national and international decorations and awards of merit, e. B. Medal for mine clearers, decorations for air defense and the series of medals Pro Ilmajoki. His heraldic works also include the design of family coats of arms and landlord's flags. As a heraldist, he also worked in Finnish companies that produce the medals and decorations.
