Jules Coupier

Jules Coupier (born April 30, 1919 in Manosque ) is a French Romanist , Occitanist , Provençalist , lexicographer and writer of Occitan.

life and work

Coupier was an elementary school teacher. In retirement from 1980 onwards he worked on a dictionary of French-Provençal rich in entries and context, which was published with scientific help. He also prepared Provencal versions of important literary texts in French (Molière, Racine, Nerval, Alain-Fournier, Radiguet, Giono, Vercors). In 1996 he received the Mistral Prize.
