Jules Duprato

Jules Duprato ( Jules-Laurent Anarchasis Hinard ; * 1827 in Nîmes , † 1892 in Paris ) was a French composer .

Life

Duprato studied at the Conservatoire de Paris and won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome in 1848 . His first comic opera Les Trovatelles was premiered at the Opéra-Comique with great success and brought Duprato the reputation of a promising young talent. With his other operettas (including Fiancée de Corinthe and La Déesse et le berger ) he did not meet the expectations placed in him; they were considered conventional and unimaginative.

In addition to his compositional activity, Duprato taught at the École Niedermeyer in Paris, where Edmond Audran was one of his students. In 1871 he was appointed professor of harmony at the Conservatoire de Paris.
