Jules Gélibert
Jules-Bernard Gélibert (born November 27, 1834 in Bagnères-de-Bigorre , † April 18, 1916 in Capbreton ) was a French animal painter and sculptor.
Jules Gélibert came from a French family of artists. His father, Paul-Jean-Pierre Gélibert (1802–1882) was a landscape and animal painter and lithographer, his younger brother Gaston Gélibert (1850–1931) was also an animal painter. Both brothers received their first painting lessons from their father.
Jules Gélibert was a student of the sculptor Bernard Griffoul-Dorval (1788–1861) at the art school in Toulouse , but devoted himself to animal painting as well as animal sculpture. He mostly painted hunting scenes and packs of hunting dogs. He painted some pictures together with his brother Gaston.
