Jules Maaten

Jules Maaten (born April 17, 1961 in Nieuwer-Amstel , now Amstelveen ) is a Dutch politician ( VVD ) and has worked for the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom since 2010 .

Maaten studied history and international law at the Free University of Amsterdam . He was a journalist for the Amstelveens Nieuwsblad newspaper and a personal assistant in the Second Chamber of the States General .

Maaten was a member of the Amstelveen municipal council from 1986 to 1991. He was a member of the European Parliament from 1999 to 2009 . From 2001 onwards he was head of the VVD delegation and in 2004 the top candidate of his party. He was also treasurer of the European Liberal, Democratic and Reform Party from 1999 to 2003 . From 2010 to 2016 he was the project office manager of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in the Philippines . From 2016 to 2020 he was Regional Office Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa in Johannesburg . Since 2020 he has headed the Regions department in the International Department of the Foundation in Potsdam .
