Jules Merviel (born September 29, 1906 in Saint-Beauzély , † September 1, 1976 in Carqueiranne ) was a French cyclist .

Career

In 1926 Merviel was 2nd in the road world championship in Milan . He was a professional from 1929 to 1944, changing the team for which he drove every year, even twice in 1933. An exception was the French cycling team Mercier-Hutchinson, with which he had a driver's contract from 1938 to 1944. But he only switched to French teams. As a professional, Jules Merviel competed in France / Paris . An exception was a bike race in Yverdon in Switzerland in 1930 ; he won. His greatest success, however, is likely to have been the victory at Paris – Tours in 1933.

Tour de France

Merviel drove the Tour de France several times ; 1929 (23rd) the first time. In 1930 he won the 7th stage from Bordeaux to Hendaye . In 1935 he crashed into a truck on the 12th stage from Cannes to Marseille and was seriously injured.
