Julián Plaza

Julián Plaza (* 9. July 1928 in General Manuel Campos, La Pampa , † 19th April 2003 in Buenos Aires ) was an Argentine tango composer and arranger , bandoneon player and pianist .

Plaza had his first bandoneon lessons from his father and was a student of Félix Lipesker in Buenos Aires from the age of eleven . In 1943 he became a member of Eduardo Donatos , shortly thereafter of Antonio Rodio's group. In 1949 he joined the Miguel Calós Orchestra, to which he was a member for ten years. He also toured Italy, Greece, Turkey, Syria and Lebanon with Eduardo Bianco , performed with Carlos Di Sarli and worked as an arranger for Atilio Stampone and Florindo Sassone .

In 1959 he became a bandoneonist in Osvaldo Pugliese's orchestra, for which he wrote a number of arrangements. In 1968 he founded the Sexteto Tango with the bandoneonists Osvaldo Ruggiero and Víctor Lavallén , the violinists Emilio Balcarce and Oscar Herrero and the double bass player Alcides Rossi - all musicians from Pugliese's orchestra - in which he played the piano himself and with which he made recordings on the Victor label . In 1992 he separated from Sexteto Tango . He performed again with Caló's orchestra and founded a bandoneon quartet with Alfredo Marcucci , Ernesto Franco and Atilio Corral .
